CANCER PATIENT KICKS OF HIS GRAND TOUR OF WALES IN WREXHAM IN SUPPORT OF CHILDREN WITH COMPLEX DISABILITIES

A cancer recovery patient who is embarking on a year of gruelling sporting challenges every month has revealed his next madcap exploit for the disability charity Sense starting in Wrexham this Friday 3rd December at 11.30 am.

Now Rob, who starred in Channel 4’s ‘The Secret Millionaire,’ is preparing for a Grand Tour of  Wales by running, cycling and walking 379 miles from Wrexham to Newport over 10 consecutive days starting on December 3rd.

In March this year, the 57 year old revealed that he’d been treated for lymphoma and was launching his Sense-less Challenge to help people with complex disabilities.

Rob had been touched by the story of a brave brother and sister – three-year-old Charlie and four-year-old Mia Clucas (pictured below with Rob) who were born with a rare genetic condition and are unlikely ever to walk or talk. They will need 24-hour care for the entirety of their life and are supported at the Sense Family Centre in Peterborough.

Lloyd has already undertaken numerous crazy challenges including marathons, skydiving James Bond style; joining the SAS for a gruelling weekend of physical activity; scaling the Three Peaks and abseiling blindfolded down The Orbit – the UK’s tallest sculpture, dressed in his ‘uniform’ orange tights and a purple tutu.

“After having lymphoma and then undertaking really physical challenges at least once a month has been tough,” he said.

“But this challenge, which is 10 consecutive days of running, walking and cycling, won’t give me any recovery time so it’s going to be especially hard on my body which has been severely punished since March when I started Rob’s Sense-Less Challenge.

“I will be covering 379 miles starting in Wrexham and following the coast down to Newport. However, now that I’m bald I might go faster and make it in 9 days!

“All the effort will be well worth it though. There really is a pressing need to help people with complex disabilities like little Mia and Charlie. The money that I raise will go towards the cost of a new centre to help families with complex disabilities in Denbigh, Wales.

“I’m proud to say that I’ve raised about £80,000 so far and I’m ready for the get go on 3rd December.  Anyone out there that wants to join me for a leg, check out my route map!”

Rob’s Sense-less Challenge concludes in March 2022.
