Arriving by taxi, to a warm greeting by Cigala staff, I immediately recognised my friends and felt at home. With a no-nonsense approach to decor the main focus of this popular venue is the food and service. Split over two levels with a function room downstairs, and open-plan restaurant and kitchen upstairs, Cigala commands a dominant corner position on Lambs Conduit Street.
Sitting down for what was to be an exciting evening, I was asked to take part in some filming in the kitchen, the beating heart of the restaurant. With flames from the hot pan and the chef whirling around me, with excited diners in high spirits this truly was an atmospheric place to be!
So with the kitchen antics over, it was time to sample the food and wine which Cigala is renowned for and why so many keep coming back for more.
First we were treated to the famous Cigala bread and genuine Spanish Olives. The bread was so soft! Then the Prawns I cooked in the kitchen!
The wine was a triumph, it’s not often I go to a restaurant and find a wine that I love straight away!
With so much to choose from I went for a fish dish, Lenguado a la Plancha – grilled Dover Sole, more wine and more conversation! All rounded off by spectacular deserts which simply melted in the mouth!
