Zeitgeist by Kurt Merki Jr: One of the most exciting superyacht concepts of the year

SWITZERLAND, September 15, 2024

Designed by Kurt Merki Jr,  the initial renders have been released for Zeitgeist, a 86.5-metre superyacht concept described as representing the “next-generation yacht owner” who desires a boundary-pushing design.

Harnessing wind and solar energy, the full yacht concept will be unveiled at Monaco Yacht Show 2024.  Zeitgeist has been designed with a sustainable approach that reaches beyond the conventional, with eco-minded features including three wind turbines and more than 800m2 solar roofing as alternative power sources for supplementing the onboard energy resources.

The concept’s exterior displays multi-functional spaces including a dedicated landing pad on the bow specifically designed for e-VTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) crafts, an 80m2 shaded owners terrace, expansive dining terrace, infinity pool and beach club aft. The upper deck houses the solar roof that not only generates energy but also serves as a shade for the hidden sky deck, protecting it from the elements.

The project focuses on materials such as natural fibre composites, vegan cactus leather and alternative bio-based decking, while the lower deck has a dedicated, fully automated 20m2 vertical nursery where the chef can grow herbs and vegetables.

“Michael Köhler (former owner of Silent Yachts) provided consultation for solar technology and overall development, and we have partnered with other innovative companies for concept development and materials – more details to come!” says Kurt Merki Jr, CEO and head designer at Swiss-based Studio KMJ GmbH. “We named our concept Zeitgeist, reflecting the boldness with design and technological capabilities, and the bravery of next-generation yacht owners who realise the importance of reducing their impact on the environment now and for future generations.”

Zeitgeist showcases the latest in superyacht builds of the future, including sustainable technologies and a focus on connecting with owners and guests who see yachting as more than a pastime.
