Christmas in Monaco does not disappoint, a huge festive woodland display currently resides in Casino Square, Christmas trees sprayed with snow, Christmas trees sprayed in gold – yes GOLD! With this year a Russian Matryoshka doll theme.
Huge decorations adorn the tree displays, the Hotel du Paris and the famous Casino. The local watch shop selling Rolex, Cartier and Omega shows festive window displays, together with beautiful white Christmas trees outside the Chanel boutique are a wonder to the eyes.
The seasonal festive decorations are not just limited to Casino Square, take a stroll down from Casino Square to the famous marina and you will see many SuperYachts with their own Christmas trees aboard, and around the marina you can visit the Christmas fair, a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. The shopping streets to the rear of the marina are glittering with Christmas treats – lights, decorations and festive shoppers in 20 degree temperatures.
It begins to turn dark around 4pm Monaco time and then the magic really begins to happen. Casino Square turns into a magical world of bright coloured lights, festive music and people busying themselves with last minute luxury Christmas shopping or dining out in the amazing open air restaurants.
For the single traveller there is much to see and do, and never a dull moment!
Take a moment to pick your way among the Ferrari’s, Rolls Royce’s and Bentley’s, all being expertly parked by the valets, and venture inside the Hotel Du Paris and marvel at the central Christmas tree in the foyer. Drinks and light nibbles are served for a welcome break, in amazingly comfortable chairs and luxurious surroundings to marvel the eyes and senses.
But I would say without a doubt, the warm welcome and friendship of the amazing people of Monaco really did stand out as the strongest memory to take away with me – until next time of course!
