The COVID-19 pandemic has had an epochal effect on all of our lives. Over the last 18 months, adults and children all over the UK have faced challenges that were stressful and overwhelming.
Public health regulations, such as social distancing, which were essential to limit the spread of COVID-19, made many of us feel isolated and lonely leading to increased stress and anxiety and a raft of problems to wrestle with as our normal professional and personal life patterns were disrupted.
Some people have been resilient to these changes and have been able to adapt and pivot into new ways of living, some are now seeing the last 18 months as a chance to reset, others may need encouragement to find their new equilibrium.
It is against this backdrop of seismic social and economic change that the pandemic imposed upon us that psychotherapist and author Andre Radmall has produced his new book ‘Get Unstuck, Change the Script, Change your Life.’
Based on anecdotal evidence from his work as a counsellor, and complete with practical tips and advice, the book provides a roadmap to moving from old ways of thinking and behaving to constructing new life stories.
Andre explains: “We have arrived at a watershed in our history. Now more than ever I believe people are looking for the tools to help them adapt to new circumstances, to reboot their lives and redesign the way they live.
“In my therapy and coaching practice I have seen a massive increase of stress and anxiety in clients as a direct response to the pandemic. Many showed feelings of fear, anger, sadness, concern, apathy, or frustration, others experienced changes in appetite, energy, desires, and interests, some had difficulty concentrating, making decisions and sleeping, while others struggled with addictions or a worsening of pre-existing physical and mental health conditions.
“However, coming out of the pandemic as I hope we are, a large number of people have seen some upsides to the experience, for example, they have enjoyed remote working and the potential to achieve a better work life balance, and have become more cognisant of the importance of family and the local community, and taking greater responsibility for the planet. It is hardly surprising that we have seen so many people move house, especially away from our cities, in search of a better quality of life and a new beginning.
“This reset has empowered many people to make change, others hanker for it but need a little help, and that’s exactly why I wrote the book.”
